In some cases, an initial parent or caregiver session may be recommended prior to meeting the child. This allows time to gather background information, discuss concerns, and complete a detailed case history. This can be done via a phone call, Zoom or in person.

The initial appointment may involve discussion, informal observations, rapport building, and/or beginning assessment tasks depending on the individual’s needs and reason for referral.

Assessment may be completed across 1-3 sessions depending on the areas being explored and the level of assessment required.

Following assessment, a written report may be completed outlining assessment findings, strengths, areas of difficulty, and recommendations. Reports are commonly requested for NDIS participants, schools, medical professionals, or ongoing therapy planning, but may also be requested by private clients where appropriate.
7. Therapy Planning
Following assessment, therapy goals and recommendations are developed collaboratively based on assessment results, discussions with the individual and/or family, and everyday functional needs.
8. Ongoing Therapy Sessions
Therapy sessions are tailored to the individual’s goals, strengths, interests, and daily communication needs. Therapy frequency and duration vary for each individual. Goals and therapy plans are regularly reviewed and adjusted as needed to reflect progress and changing needs.
No referral is required to access speech pathology services privately. Referrals may also be provided by GPs, paediatricians, schools, allied health professionals, support coordinators, or other healthcare providers.
Some funding pathways, such as Medicare Chronic Condition Management Plans, may require a referral from your GP.
